>> How to hot link AutoCAD block attributes to Excel

Step 1
|
|
Open drawing C:\ CADTool\ tutorial\ acad\ AutoBlock.dwg
|
|
Step 2
|
|
In the
opened drawing there is already a block named TitleBlock,
containing 3 attributes as shown below. You can create any of you
own block same as this one using AutoCAD command.

|
Step 3
|
|
Click on CADTool >> Link Block to Excel
command from pull down menu
|
| Highlight
block name and click Link Selected button |
Click on Browse button |

 |
|
|
Step 4
|
|
Browse
to C:\CADTool\tutorial\office\tut02.xls file and open it
Make
sure Sheet 1 is selected in the combo box
Point
mouse to A12 cell and click on Update button
|
|
|
Step 5
|
|
Point mouse to B13 cell, highlight DWG_TITLE tag, and
click on Update button
|
|
|
Step 6
|
|
Drag
the dialog box around to show Rev and Scale cell
Repeat
what you did in Step 5: Highlight Excel cell and Tag row, click Update
button to fill up two other Tags REV and SCALE
Click
on Link button to continue
|
|
|
Step 7
|
|
Click on OK button to continue
|
|
|
Step 8
|
|
Click
on CADTool >> Insert Block menu
Highlight
TitleBlock and click on Insert Selected button
|
|
|
Step 9
|
|
Point
mouse to A15 cell and click on Update button. All
attributes info will be shown in the dialog box
Click
on Insert button to continue
|

|
Step 10
|
|
AutoCAD
command window asks you to specify block insertion point |
Point
you mouse to a point on the screen and left click. The block
is placed with attribute values pulled from Excel |

For a
block, you only need to Link Block to Excel once and can Insert
Block multiple times. In each insertion the block gets different attribute values from
Excel if you point its block id to a different Excel cell.
